Sambar

Pigeon pea lentils, tamarind, and a special spice mixture known as sambar powder are used to make the South Indian dish sambar, a lentil and vegetable stew. It is a common meal in South Indian households and is adored by a lot of people.

Ingredients
  

  • 100 g Toor dal
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • Shallots 10 or onion 2
  • 1 Green chilli
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 Drumstick
  • 2 Brinjal
  • 1/2 Carrot
  • Salt
  • Turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Sambar powder
  • Tamarind juice
  • Coriander leaves
  • Water

Instructions
 

  • Take a pot and add toor dal and wash it.
  • Then add water as cover the toor dal and add garlic cloves.
  • Cook them.
  • Then take another pot and add oil.
  • Add mustard, cumin seeds, fenugreek and curry leaves.
  • Then add sallots or onion, and green chilies.
  • Saute well.
  • Then add tomato and saute well.
  • Now add drumstick, brinjal, and carrot.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Then add sambar powder and saute well.
  • Add water, cover and cook well around 10 mins.
  • Now add tamarind juice and boil for 5 minutes.
  • Mash cooked toor dal and addto the sambar and mix well.
  • Add salt according to taste and boil for 5 minutes.
  • Then add coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Now sambar is ready.
