It is a dark, sticky, and dense sponge texture. Also, this is similar to fruitcake and is made of mixed dried fruit, candied fruit peel, apple, and citrus zests. Brandy and spices are also added to the Christmas pudding and they provide a deep, complex flavor and dark color.
History of Christmas Pudding
Christmas pudding was originated in England. And also the very first version of the pudding originated in the 14th century. This pudding is dark in color and usually soaked with brandy or other alcohols. The origin of the Christmas or plum pudding goes back centuries.
The British-made porridge called “frumenty” is made of beef and mutton with raisins, wines, currants, and spices. At that time pudding tended to be more like soup and was eaten in the time of Christmas preparation.
By the end of the 14th century, frumenty has known as plum pudding, Christmas pudding, or Pud. After the 16th century, dried fruit became more available, and the pudding slowly shifted from savory to sweet.

This is an easy recipe to make at home. A pudding basin, baking paper, foil is needed to make the Christmas cake. Christmas pudding can prepare using the oven, a steamer, or using a microwave.

Christmas Pudding
Ingredients
- 100 grams Sultanas
- 50 grams Raisins
- 25 grams Currants
- 75 grams Chopped Dates
- 75 grams Cherries
- 30 grams Ginger Preserves
- 25 grams Candied Peel
- 2 Lemon Zest / Orange Zest
- 5 tbsp Wine / Rum /Beer
- 75 grams Walnuts / Cashews
- 150 grams White Bread Crumbs
- 150 grams Brown Sugar / Jaggery
- 75 grams Plain Flour
- 1 Chopped Cooking Apple
- 2 Large Eggs
- 2 tbsp Mixed Spices
- 100 grams Butter
Instructions
- Take a large glass bowl and add sultanas, raisins, currants, chopped dates, cherries, ginger preserves, candied peel, lemon zest, wine / beer / rum.
- Then mix all together well.
- Then cover and seal the bowl verywell and place it overnight for marinatiting.
- Next, open the bowl and add walnuts/cashews, white bread crumbs, brown sugar/jaggery, plain flour, chopped cooking apple, beaten eggs, mixed spices and butter.
- Then, mix well all together.
- Then, take a pudding basin and put a greesseproof paper to the bottom of the basin.
- Fill the basin with the pudding mixture.
- Then, cover the basin with a baking paper. It should be folded in the middle.
- Next, cover with a layer of foil.
- Then, tie the basin with a piece of string around the rim.
- Next, place an upturn saucer on the bottom of a large pan and set the pudding basin on top of the saucer.
- Then pour hot water on the side of the pan that the pan is half full.
- Cover the pan and bring to boil.
- Once the boiling reduce the heat and cook until the pudding is completely boiling. ( about five hours)
- Top up with boiling water when necessary.
- After boiling the pudding well, remove the cover
